How the Temporary Residency Process Works
1. Prepare for the Consular Process
Temporary Residency generally begins with a Mexican consulate outside Mexico. Requirements and procedures can vary by consulate, so choosing the appropriate consulate and preparing the correct documentation is important.
2. Schedule Your Consular Appointment
Visa appointments are officially scheduled through Mexico's MiConsulado system. Appointment availability can vary, and navigating requirements and scheduling can sometimes be frustrating.
Want Help With the Process?
Working with an experienced Mexican immigration professional can make the process easier. KP NetGlobal can connect you with professionals who can help review your situation, prepare documentation, explain requirements and assist with appointment and application logistics.
3. Attend Your Consular Interview
Bring the required documentation and financial evidence for the consulate where you are applying. Approval is determined by the Mexican consular authorities.
4. Enter Mexico and Complete the INM Process
After entering Mexico with the appropriate visa, the residency process continues with Mexico's National Immigration Institute (INM), where the resident card is obtained.
Our upcoming guide will walk you through the entire process—from preparing for your consulate appointment through receiving your residency card in Mexico.
